Safety knife S24 – with automatic blade retraction

Cutting depth 18 mm | Plastic housing | Pliers grip

Tortoris S24 is a safety level 1 safety knife with automatic blade retraction. Unlike classic thumb-slider knives, the blade is extended here by squeezing the pliers grip and retracts automatically as soon as the grip is released again.

The housing is made of high-quality glass-fibre-reinforced plastic and impresses with a particularly ergonomic design: instead of a thumb slider, a pliers grip releases the blade, which makes handling pleasant in everyday use. The knife is therefore designed for frequent use of up to 1,000 cuts per day.

The S24 is equally suitable for left- and right-handed users without any conversion. The blade is changed without tools directly at the workstation, the narrow blade opening at the housing head leaves hardly any room for unwanted contact with the blade, and an integrated transport lock prevents accidental extension in the warehouse or vehicle.

The knife is universally applicable – from cartons and strapping to films and twine – but is particularly suited to daily use in logistics, warehouse and production. Safety knives overview

Further features
Knife type: safety knife
Safety knives are designed for continuous professional use — usually with an automatic or manual blade guard that prevents cuts when the knife is not in use. The standard choice in logistics, retail and production.
Ergonomics: ergonomic design
Ergonomic design — the handle shape is designed around the hand position when cutting and reduces fatigue with repeated use.
Ergonomics: tool-free blade change
Tool-free blade change — insert a new blade without tools, done in seconds.
Ergonomics: pliers grip
Pliers grip — the blade is activated simply by squeezing the handle shells, without thumb pressure. Particularly gentle with frequent use and at safety level 2, where the blade has to be re-activated after every cut.
Ergonomics: left- and right-handed
Left- and right-handed — can be used with either hand, with or without conversion depending on the model, equally suitable for left- and right-handed users.
Weight: < 100 g
< 100 g — noticeably lighter than all-metal knives without sacrificing stability. Comfortable with frequent, repeated use throughout the day. This model weighs 60 g.
Material: carbon steel
Carbon steel — higher sharpness and longer edge retention than stainless steel. Ideal for dry environments with a high cutting frequency.
Coating: uncoated
Uncoated — constant basic sharpness without coating wear, cost-efficient and proven. The most economical choice for standard applications.
Sharpness: high initial sharpness
High initial sharpness — especially sharp from the first cut, ideal when maximum cutting performance is needed immediately.
Sharpness: normal edge life
Normal edge life — usual service life until the blade is changed, in line with the market standard for this type of blade.
Blade safety: few mounting holes
Few mounting holes — fewer blade mounting holes mean fewer predetermined breaking points under lateral force, and a lower risk of uncontrolled breakage.

Replacement blades

The Tortoris S24 is supplied with a trapezoid carbon steel blade (without a CURT article number). The knife is compatible with standard trapezoid blades from various manufacturers. Our recommendation for everyday use: K014 (premium, long edge life thanks to the tungsten carbide coating). Overview of all trapezoid blades

Alternatives

Besides the Tortoris S24, CURT offers further safety knives with different release mechanisms: the ES44 with fully automatic blade retraction for a higher safety level, the Secunorm Mizar with a similar pliers-grip principle, and the Safe 10 and Basic with a classic thumb slider and automatic retraction. This way you will find the operating logic that suits your application.

Accessories
