Safety knife ES44 – with fully automatic blade retraction

Cutting depth 21 mm | Plastic housing | Pliers grip

Tortoris ES44 is a safety level 2 safety knife with fully automatic blade retraction. Unlike classic thumb-slider knives, the blade is extended by squeezing the pliers grip and retracts by itself as soon as the grip is released or the blade leaves the material being cut.

The housing is made of high-quality glass-fibre-filled plastic, and the blade carrier inside is additionally made of metal – together designed for hard continuous use. The pliers grip relieves wrist and tendons because the blade does not have to be re-activated with the thumb for every cut; the knife is therefore designed for frequent use of up to 1,000 cuts per day .

Right- and left-handed users can operate the ES44 directly without any conversion. The blade is changed without tools via a magnetic holder, and a Transport lock prevents the blade from being released by accident during storage and transport.

In logistics, retail, production and trades, the ES44 covers a wide range of materials and plays to its strengths particularly with firmer materials such as cartons, strapping and rubber. Safety knives overview

Applications & cutting materials

Which materials is this knife made for — and where does it reach its limits?

Particularly suitable for thick materials

Cardboard – lids/flaps — Safety knife extra safe ES44 – fully automatic blade retraction im Einsatz

Cardboard – lids/flaps

When cutting off lids and flaps of cartons, the blade passes cleanly through the multi-layer corrugated board and retracts fully automatically into the housing after the cut.

Rubber — Safety knife extra safe ES44 – fully automatic blade retraction im Einsatz

Rubber

The ES44 cuts tough sheet rubber in a straight line – the pliers grip lets you apply the necessary pressure to the edge in a controlled way.

Foam materials — Safety knife extra safe ES44 – fully automatic blade retraction im Einsatz

Foam materials

Through thick foam boards, the blade, only 0.65 mm thick, also draws tight curves and contours without squashing the soft material.

Further features
Knife type: safety knife
Safety knives are designed for continuous professional use — usually with an automatic or manual blade guard that prevents cuts when the knife is not in use. The standard choice in logistics, retail and production.
Ergonomics: ergonomic design
Ergonomic design — the handle shape is designed around the hand position when cutting and reduces fatigue with repeated use.
Ergonomics: tool-free blade change
Tool-free blade change — insert a new blade without tools, done in seconds.
Ergonomics: pliers grip
Pliers grip — the blade is activated simply by squeezing the handle shells, without thumb pressure. Particularly gentle with frequent use and at safety level 2, where the blade has to be re-activated after every cut.
Ergonomics: left- and right-handed
Left- and right-handed — can be used with either hand, with or without conversion depending on the model, equally suitable for left- and right-handed users.
Weight: < 100 g
< 100 g — noticeably lighter than all-metal knives without sacrificing stability. Comfortable with frequent, repeated use throughout the day. This model weighs 89 g.
Material: carbon steel
Carbon steel — higher sharpness and longer edge retention than stainless steel. Ideal for dry environments with a high cutting frequency.
Coating: uncoated
Uncoated — constant basic sharpness without coating wear, cost-efficient and proven. The most economical choice for standard applications.
Sharpness: high initial sharpness
High initial sharpness — especially sharp from the first cut, ideal when maximum cutting performance is needed immediately.
Sharpness: normal edge life
Normal edge life — usual service life until the blade is changed, in line with the market standard for this type of blade.
Blade safety: without snap-off segments
Without snap-off segments — continuous blade without predetermined breaking points, no risk of a segment breaking off uncontrolled.
Blade safety: few mounting holes
Few mounting holes — fewer blade mounting holes mean fewer predetermined breaking points under lateral force, and a lower risk of uncontrolled breakage.
