Safety knife Basic – with automatic blade retraction

Cutting depth 19 mm | Plastic housing | rubberised grip

The Basic safety knife from CURT is a safety level 1 knife with automatic blade retraction. The blade retracts as soon as the thumb releases the slider.

The impact-resistant plastic housing is reinforced with a sturdy sheet-metal rail that gives the blade a secure hold and keeps the knife dimensionally stable. The large handle sits securely even in large hands, a rubberised area on the back gives additional grip, and the large thumb slider runs smoothly. The Basic is therefore designed for frequent use of up to 1,000 cuts per day.

By turning the blade over, the Basic can be set up for right- and left-handed users. The blade is changed without tools directly at the workstation. Safety is additionally verified by a GS certificate.

The Basic is used above all where large quantities of packaging have to be opened every day – cutting off lids and flaps of cartons, cutting through PP and PET strapping and opening adhesive tape, film and bags. Its focus is on logistics, shipping and retail branches, where the price per knife counts. Safety knives overview

Further features
Knife type: safety knife
Safety knives are designed for continuous professional use — usually with an automatic or manual blade guard that prevents cuts when the knife is not in use. The standard choice in logistics, retail and production.
Ergonomics: SoftGrip
SoftGrip — reduces fatigue over long shifts thanks to grippy, padded zones.
Ergonomics: tool-free blade change
Tool-free blade change — insert a new blade without tools, done in seconds.
Ergonomics: thumb slider
Thumb slider — the blade is pushed forward with the thumb in the classic way.
Ergonomics: left- and right-handed
Left- and right-handed — can be used with either hand, with or without conversion depending on the model, equally suitable for left- and right-handed users.
Ergonomics: large slider
Large slider — generously sized, can be operated safely and over a large area, even with gloves.
Ergonomics: smooth-running slider
Smooth-running slider — operates with little effort, noticeably more comfortable with frequent use.
Weight: < 100 g
< 100 g — noticeably lighter than all-metal knives without sacrificing stability. Comfortable with frequent, repeated use throughout the day. This model weighs 63 g.
Material: carbon steel
Carbon steel — higher sharpness and longer edge retention than stainless steel. Ideal for dry environments with a high cutting frequency.
Coating: uncoated
Uncoated — constant basic sharpness without coating wear, cost-efficient and proven. The most economical choice for standard applications.
Sharpness: long edge life
Long edge life — much longer service life until the next blade change than standard blades. Reduces change intervals and blade consumption in intensive use.
Blade safety: without snap-off segments
Without snap-off segments — continuous blade without predetermined breaking points, no risk of a segment breaking off uncontrolled.
Blade safety: few mounting holes
Few mounting holes — fewer blade mounting holes mean fewer predetermined breaking points under lateral force, and a lower risk of uncontrolled breakage.

Blade change – how it works

  1. 1 Push the slider about 0.5 cm forward.
  2. 2 Wait until the black plastic nose becomes visible under the notches of the metal rail.
  3. 3 Fold the slider upwards and carefully pull the blade out towards the front.
  4. 4 Turn the blade over or insert a new K010 replacement blade.
  5. 5 Push the hole of the blade up to the notches of the metal rail.
  6. 6 Fold the slider lever back down.
  7. 7 Dispose of the dull blade safely in a collection box.

Replacement blades

The Basic safety knife is supplied with the K010 – a carbon steel trapezoid blade designed extra long. The knife only accepts trapezoid blades of the matching format – pay attention to compatibility when buying. Our recommendation for everyday use: K010 (long trapezoid blade). Alternatives

If you are looking for a different design or price class, you will find suitable level 1 alternatives: the compact U019 with a 1 cm blade as a particularly low-priced entry, the Martor Secunorm 175 with a double-sided slider in the premium segment, the U014 with a metal housing for higher loads and the US10 with two-stage adjustable cutting depth. All work with automatic blade retraction.

Accessories

Complement the Basic safety knife with matching accessories: collection boxes for dull blades, lanyards as a safety cord, cutting rulers for precise cuts and holsters for safe storage.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about the Basic safety knife – we answer them here in detail. If you have further questions, we are happy to help you personally: To the contact form

Which replacement blades fit the Basic safety knife?
The Basic safety knife is supplied with the K010 carbon steel trapezoid blade, which can be used twice by turning it over. It is deliberately designed long and fits the sheet-metal rail precisely. Other trapezoid blade formats do not fit – pay attention to the article number when reordering.
Is the Basic safety knife detectable?
The Basic safety knife is not detectable. For businesses with metal detection in food or pharmaceutical production, a model with a detectable handle and a detectable blade is the right choice.
Is the Basic safety knife suitable for left-handed users?
Yes. With the Basic safety knife the blade can be turned over, which makes it equally suitable for right- and left-handed users. No conversion of the handle is necessary.
Which safety level does the Basic safety knife have?
The Basic safety knife meets safety level 1: after every cut a spring pulls the blade back into the handle automatically as soon as the thumb releases the slider.
