Comfort – metal housing with automatic blade retraction

Metal housing | cutting depth up to 21 mm | GS certificate

The Komfort safety knife is one of the classic safety knives and reliably protects against cut injuries through automatic blade retraction (safety level 1): as soon as the thumb releases the slider, the blade retracts into the housing by itself. This mechanism is carried by a robust metal housing made of aluminium, which is also designed for frequent use with up to 1,000 cuts a day. The cutting depth can also be set to up to 21 mm, so that the knife adapts to different cutting tasks. The Komfort safety knife is therefore particularly suited to production managers and general work in manufacturing that requires a robust knife in continuous use. Safety knives overview

Highlights

  • High safety: automatic blade retraction (safety level 1) – the blade retracts as soon as the thumb releases the slider
  • High robustness: Handle made entirely of aluminium – resistant even in daily continuous use
  • Secure hold: SoftGrip at the side of the housing for a reliable grip
  • Flexibly adjustable: Cutting depth between 16 and 21 mm – the blade is repositioned in the blade carrier for this
  • For right- and left-handed users: Top-slider can be operated directly from both sides, without conversion

Applications & cutting materials

Which materials is this knife made for — and where does it reach its limits?

Ideal for cardboard, adhesive tape and straps

Corrugated board & cardboard — Safety knife automatic im Einsatz

Corrugated board & cardboard

Opening, cutting off flaps of and breaking down cartons is one of the most frequent tasks in goods receiving. Single- to triple-wall corrugated board can be cut through in a controlled manner without damaging the contents.

Adhesive tape — Safety knife automatic im Einsatz

Adhesive tape

Sealed cartons are opened at the adhesive tape. A short, defined cutting depth cuts the tape without scoring the goods underneath.

Strapping (PP/PET) — Safety knife automatic im Einsatz

Strapping (PP/PET)

Strapping made of PP or PET secures parcels and pallets. Straps under tension are cut in a defined way – an important point for occupational safety.

Knife know-how

Not every safety knife is built the same – and you only notice it when it matters in everyday use. In the knife know-how section we use six criteria to show you how the Komfort safety knife performs in the most important respects: from the safety mechanism and grip quality to blade performance. This lets you judge at a glance what distinguishes this knife – and whether it suits your application. If you have questions about choosing, we are happy to help you personally.

Further features
Knife type: safety knife
Safety knives are designed for continuous professional use — usually with an automatic or manual blade guard that prevents cuts when the knife is not in use. The standard choice in logistics, retail and production.
Ergonomics: SoftGrip
SoftGrip — reduces fatigue over long shifts thanks to grippy, padded zones.
Ergonomics: left- and right-handed
Left- and right-handed — can be used with either hand, with or without conversion depending on the model, equally suitable for left- and right-handed users.
Weight: > 100 g
> 100 g — higher weight, usually due to all-metal construction. More robustness at somewhat lower comfort over long periods. This model weighs 130 g.
Material: carbon steel
Carbon steel — higher sharpness and longer edge retention than stainless steel. Ideal for dry environments with a high cutting frequency.
Blade safety: without snap-off segments
Without snap-off segments — continuous blade without predetermined breaking points, no risk of a segment breaking off uncontrolled.

Blade change – how it works

  1. 1 Unscrew the screw
  2. 2 Remove the upper half of the housing
  3. 3 Remove the blade by its short, blunt edge
  4. 4 Turn the blade or insert a new blade
  5. 5 Depending on the cutting depth required, place the blade notch on the appropriate lug
  6. 6 Fit the housing cover and screw it down
  7. 7 Dispose of the dull blade safely

Replacement blades

The Komfort safety knife is supplied with a carbon steel trapezoid blade (without its own CURT article number). The knife is compatible with standard trapezoid blades from various manufacturers. Our recommendation for daily use: the K014 with tungsten carbide coating for an extra long edge life. Overview of all trapezoid blades

Variants

Alongside the Komfort safety knife there is the U014K variant with a ceramic safety blade instead of a carbon steel blade. The ceramic blade does not rust and is much more wear-resistant, but more sensitive to lateral loads. The housing, automatic blade retraction and all other functions are identical to the Komfort safety knife.

Alternatives

The Komfort safety knife sits between entry-level and professional knives in terms of price. If you are looking for a cheaper disposable knife, the U013 (Basic) is a lower-priced alternative. If, on the other hand, you want a professional knife with identical function in a higher-quality version, you will find it in the Tajima VRex 103 (U010) or the Tortoris Safe 10 (US10) – both also with automatic blade retraction and an all-metal housing.

Accessories

Complement the Komfort safety knife with matching accessories: collection boxes for dull blades, lanyards as a safety cord, cutting rulers for precise cuts and holsters for safe storage.
