Safety knife Vrex 103 Premium – with automatic blade retraction

Cutting depth 22 mm | Metal housing | Detectable

Tajima Vrex 103 Premium is a safety level 1 safety knife with automatic blade retraction. The blade retracts as soon as the thumb releases the slider.

The housing is made entirely of aluminium and is therefore particularly robust – all components are made of metal and secured so that no part can be lost even when the knife is opened. The ergonomic design with the wide thumb slider on top of the housing (top slider) allows powerful, controlled cuts. The knife is therefore designed for intensive use of more than 1,000 cuts per day.

Because the slider sits on top of the housing, the knife can be operated on both sides and is suitable for right- and left-handed users without any conversion. The cutting depth can be adjusted, the GS certificate confirms tested safety, and the blade is changed without tools directly at the workstation. With its solid weight of over 100 g it sits firmly in the hand – a good choice for larger hands too.

The Vrex 103 Premium is designed for universal use – cardboard, films, sacks and strapping –, but is particularly suited to logistics, where triple-wall export cartons and thick-walled octabins are also encountered. You will find further models for your area of use in our safety knives overview.

Highlights

  • High occupational safety: automatic blade retraction (safety level 1) – the blade retracts as soon as the thumb releases the slider.
  • Very high build quality: housing made entirely of aluminium – all components made of metal and mechanically secured, no part can be lost during operation.
  • Long cutting depth: 22 mm – enough even for triple-wall export cartons and thick-walled octabins.
  • Tool-free blade change: the housing can be opened without tools; the universal two-cam mount accepts standard trapezoid blades from many manufacturers.
  • Suitable for food and pharma: detectable – all components made of metal and reliably recognised by metal detectors.

Further features

Safety

Magnet for blade changes
Lets you change the blade without tools and without touching the sharp blade directly.
Without snap-off segments
Continuous blade without predetermined breaking points, no risk of a segment breaking off uncontrolled.
Rounded tip
Prevents puncture injuries without limiting the cutting performance of the blade edge. Particularly relevant for overhead or blind work.

Handle & ergonomics

Ergonomic design
The handle shape is designed around the hand position when cutting and reduces fatigue with repeated use.
Thumb slider
The blade is pushed forward with the thumb in the classic way.
Left- and right-handed
Can be used with either hand, with or without conversion depending on the model, equally suitable for left- and right-handed users.
Large slider
Generously sized, can be operated safely and over a large area, even with gloves.
Weight > 100 g
Higher weight, usually due to all-metal construction. More robust, with somewhat less carrying comfort over long periods. This model weighs 191 g.

Blade

Adjustable cutting depth
Can be limited to protect the material underneath, e.g. the contents of a carton, from damage.
Premium carbon steel
Refined alloy with even better edge retention, for particularly demanding continuous use.
Black (fluorinated)
Additionally protects against corrosion and reduces material adhesion on the blade.
High initial sharpness
Especially sharp from the first cut, ideal when maximum cutting performance is needed immediately.
Long edge life
Much longer service life until the next blade change than standard blades. Reduces change intervals and blade consumption in intensive use.

Special features

Tool-free blade change
Insert a new blade without tools, done in seconds.
Eyelet
For attaching to a belt, carabiner or lanyard so the knife stays within easy reach.
Knife type: safety knife
Safety knives are designed for continuous professional use — usually with an automatic or manual blade guard that prevents cuts when the knife is not in use. The standard choice in logistics, retail and production.

Frequently asked questions

The most frequently asked questions about the Tajima VRex 103 (U010): detectability, suitability for left-handed users, safety level and typical areas of use – answered concisely.

Is the Tajima VRex 103 (U010) detectable?
The Tajima VRex 103 is detectable. The all-metal aluminium housing is reliably recognised by metal detectors in food and pharmaceutical plants. It is therefore suitable for production areas where detection is mandatory and foreign bodies in the flow of goods must be ruled out.
Is the Tajima VRex 103 suitable for left-handed users?
The Tajima VRex 103 can be operated directly on both sides – for right- and left-handed users, without any conversion. The wide top slider on the top of the housing can be operated equally securely with the thumb of either hand.
Which safety level does the Tajima VRex 103 have?
