Safety knife Safe 11 – with automatic blade retraction

Cutting depth 36 mm | Metal housing | wide blade opening

The Tortoris Safe 11 is a safety level 1 safety knife with automatic blade retraction: the blade retracts as soon as the thumb releases the slider.

The housing is made of sturdy metal instead of ordinary plastic and is therefore considerably more durable in hard continuous use. The particularly ergonomic design with a double-sided thumb slider sits well in the hand and is smooth to operate – the knife is therefore designed for intensive use of more than 1,000 cuts per day.

Right- and left-handed users operate the Safe 11 without any conversion. It carries the GS mark for tested safety, the blade is changed without tools via a magnetic holder, and the wide blade opening at the front ensures reliable blade retraction even when adhesive tape sticks to it.

The Safe 11 is universally suited to packaging materials such as films, adhesive tape and strapping, but is designed in particular for cutting open big bags, where the long blade plays to its strengths. Safety knives overview

Further features

Safety

Transport lock
Prevents the blade from extending by accident in a pocket or tool case.
Magnet for blade changes
Lets you change the blade without tools and without touching the sharp blade directly.
Without snap-off segments
Continuous blade without predetermined breaking points, no risk of a segment breaking off uncontrolled.
Few mounting holes
Fewer blade mounting holes mean fewer predetermined breaking points under lateral force, and a lower risk of uncontrolled breakage.

Handle & ergonomics

Ergonomic design
The handle shape is designed around the hand position when cutting and reduces fatigue with repeated use.
SoftGrip
Reduces fatigue over long shifts thanks to grippy, padded zones.
Thumb slider
The blade is pushed forward with the thumb in the classic way.
Left- and right-handed
Can be used with either hand, with or without conversion depending on the model, equally suitable for left- and right-handed users.
Large slider
Generously sized, can be operated safely and over a large area, even with gloves.
Smooth-running slider
Operates with little effort, noticeably more comfortable with frequent use.
Weight < 100 g
Noticeably lighter than all-metal knives without compromising on stability. Comfortable with frequent, repeated use throughout the day. This model weighs 58 g.

Blade

Premium carbon steel
Refined alloy with even better edge retention, for particularly demanding continuous use.
Uncoated
Constant basic sharpness without coating wear, cost-efficient and proven. The most economical choice for standard applications.
High initial sharpness
Especially sharp from the first cut, ideal when maximum cutting performance is needed immediately.
Very long edge life
Maximum service life between two blade changes, for the most intensive continuous use with as little changing effort as possible.

Special features

Wide housing opening
The generously sized opening makes blade changes easier, even with gloves.
Tool-free blade change
Insert a new blade without tools, done in seconds.
Eyelet
For attaching to a belt, carabiner or lanyard so the knife stays within easy reach.
Knife type: safety knife
Safety knives are designed for continuous professional use — usually with an automatic or manual blade guard that prevents cuts when the knife is not in use. The standard choice in logistics, retail and production.

Replacement blades

Three long blades without snap-off segments are available for the Safe 11: smooth premium carbon steel for clean cuts, a serrated grind for a particularly long edge life and a stainless steel blade for hygienically sensitive areas. All can be changed without tools. Overview of all cutter knife blades

Variants

If you are looking for the same automatic safety with a shorter blade, the Tortoris Safe 10 is the right variant: almost identical in construction, but with a cutting depth of around 2 cm and additionally adjustable cutting depth. The same intuitive operation via the double-sided slider.

Alternatives

There are only a few long safety knives with automatic blade retraction. The well-known Martor Secunorm 540 and the identical-in-construction U002P are each operated via a raised, single-sided slider – very smooth, but only from one side. The Safe 11 is the only one in this segment with a double-sided slider. If you prefer a different design or a shorter blade, you will find suitable alternatives here.

Accessories

The Tortoris Safe 11 can be usefully complemented: a collection box for the safe disposal of dull blades, a lanyard for working without putting the knife down, a cutting ruler for precise straight cuts and a holster for quick access on the belt.

Frequently asked questions

The most frequently asked questions about the Tortoris Safe 11 – from operation for left-handed users and the automatic blade retraction and safety level 1 to the right application in goods receiving. If your question is not answered here, our team will be happy to help you personally.

Is the Tortoris Safe 11 suitable for left-handed users?

Yes. The Tortoris Safe 11 has a double-sided slider – the rubberised thumb slider sits on both sides of the housing. Right- and left-handed users operate the knife equally well, without any conversion or repositioning of the blade.

How does the automatic blade retraction work on the Safe 11?

With the Safe 11 you extend the blade forward with the thumb slider and hold it during the cut. As soon as you release the slider, a spring pulls the blade back into the housing automatically – even if the knife falls. This means an open blade is never exposed. The wide blade gap at the front ensures that the retraction closes reliably even with adhesive tape stuck to it.

What does safety level 1 mean for the Safe 11?

The Safe 11 is a level 1 safety knife: the blade extends actively for cutting and retracts automatically as soon as the slider is released. Level 1 is an industry classification for knives with automatic blade retraction – it significantly reduces the risk of injury compared with knives with a fixed blade, without limiting cutting performance.

What is the Tortoris Safe 11 best suited for?

The Safe 11 excels wherever more cutting depth is needed: when opening film sacks and big bags, when cutting up thick shipping cartons and octabins, and when cutting strapping. The long blade with up to 36 mm reaches material layers where short safety knives fail – ideal for intensive use in warehouse and logistics.
