Cutting depth 3.3 mm | plastic housing | narrow cutting channel
Klever Kutter orange KCJ-1G is a level 3 safety knife with a concealed blade. Finger contact with the blade is not possible before, during or after the cut.
The housing is made of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic and weighs only 17 g – so the knife is designed for light use of up to 100 cuts per day.
Thanks to the symmetrical wave shape, the knife can be used on both sides without modification – also suitable for left-handed users. At only 17 g it also falls into the featherweight class (< 50 g), which allows fatigue-free work even with frequent changes of grip.
The knife is suitable across industries – from logistics and branch retail through food & pharmaceuticals to production and construction/trades – and reliably cuts strapping, stretch film, adhesive tape, sacks and cords. Safety knife overview
The Klever Kutter shows its strength with strapping and stretch film – it cuts these very well. It separates adhesive tapes and plastic cords just as reliably. It is suitable for thin corrugated board, sacks, non-woven fabric, PVC and rubber film. The narrow cutting channel is not designed for polystyrene and ropes.
The Klever Kutter is a piece of BoxCutter history: it co-founded the design of the concealed mini blade, which more than twenty imitators still follow today. What sets it apart technically – and where its limits lie – is shown honestly and clearly in this overview of safety, handle, ergonomics and blade.
All technical data, the suitable cutting materials and the safety features of the Klever Kutter are summarised in the product flyer. The PDF is available to download free of charge and serves as a compact overview for purchasing and occupational safety.

Both share the design and operation of the standard model.
If you are looking for a sturdier BoxCutter for more demanding applications, there are strong alternatives: the Tortoris US53 won our BoxCutter test 2025 with the lowest force required, the OLFA SK-15 became the best-value winner. If you would rather change the blade than replace the whole knife, choose the CB100. All three cut with noticeably less force than the Klever Kutter.
The Klever Kutter can be complemented with matching accessories: a collection box for the safe disposal of dull disposable knives, a lanyard for attachment to the integrated eyelet, a cutting ruler with a steel edge for precise cuts and a holster for quick access in goods receiving.
Frequently asked questions about the Klever Kutter: from the safety level and the narrow cutting channel through the suitable materials to the differences from newer BoxCutters such as the US53 and the OLFA SK-15.
With 3.3 mm, the Klever Kutter has the narrowest cutting channel in its class. There is so little space between handle and protective hook that a finger cannot structurally reach the concealed blade. In pure finger protection it is therefore among the safest BoxCutters of all.
The Klever Kutter specialises in strapping and stretch film and also cuts adhesive tapes and plastic cords very well. Thin corrugated board, sacks, non-woven fabric and PVC and rubber film can also be cut. The narrow cutting channel is not designed for polystyrene, ropes or thick cardboard.
No, the Klever Kutter is a disposable knife without blade change. Because both sides of the blade are used, it achieves around 910 cuts. Once the blade is dull, the complete knife is replaced – resharpening or blade change is not intended.
The Klever Kutter is the historic pioneer of this design, but at 35 N it needs noticeably more cutting force than newer models. The US53 (20 N) and the OLFA SK-15 (25 N) cut more easily and performed better in our BoxCutter test. For pure finger protection, the narrow channel of the Klever Kutter nevertheless remains remarkable.
Yes. The Klever Kutter is available as a detectable variant (H035MDP) for food and pharmaceutical production and as an antimicrobial version (H035 Kleen). Both correspond in design and operation to the orange standard model.
