Safety knife SK-15 – with concealed blade

Cutting depth 3.2 mm | Plastic housing | Tape slitter

The OLFA SK-15 is a safety level 3 safety knife with a concealed blade. Finger contact with the blade is not possible before, during or after the cut.

The housing is made of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic, sturdy yet light. The particularly ergonomic design sits comfortably in the hand – the knife is therefore designed for frequent use of up to 1,000 cuts per day.

The SK-15 can be operated on both sides – equally suitable for left- and right-handed users, without any conversion. At only 15 g, it belongs to the featherweight class (under 50 g) and is therefore barely noticeable in the hand even during prolonged use. In addition, it is NSF listed and therefore also suitable for use in food-processing businesses and damp working environments.

The main field of application is logistics, goods receiving and e-commerce, where the SK-15 reliably cuts cartons, adhesive tape, stretch film and strapping. It is also suitable for food retail and other sectors such as automotive, leather, textiles, production, and construction & trades.

Applications & cutting materials

The OLFA SK-15 is designed for films, strapping and adhesive tape and reliably opens light to medium-weight cartons. The deliberately narrow cutting channel ensures high safety but is not suitable for thick or bulky materials such as polystyrene, rubber or ropes.

For straps, films and cartons

Strapping (PP/PET) — BoxCutter safety knife OLFA SK15 – maximum safety im Einsatz

Strapping (PP/PET)

Strapping made of PP or PET secures parcels and pallets. Straps under tension are cut in a defined way – an important point for occupational safety.

Stretch & shrink film — BoxCutter safety knife OLFA SK15 – maximum safety im Einsatz

Stretch & shrink film

Palletised goods are secured with stretch film. The multi-layer film is cut open quickly and in a controlled manner when unpacking.

Corrugated board & cardboard — BoxCutter safety knife OLFA SK15 – maximum safety im Einsatz

Corrugated board & cardboard

Opening, cutting off flaps of and breaking down cartons is one of the most frequent tasks in goods receiving. Single- to triple-wall corrugated board can be cut through in a controlled manner without damaging the contents.

Knife know-how

Level 3 safety knives offer the most consistent protection: the blade stays permanently concealed. The OLFA SK-15 shows what matters here – from the protective hook principle and the stainless steel blade to the deliberately narrow cutting channel. Here you can see at a glance what makes the SK-15 special and where its limits lie.

Further features
Knife type: safety knife
Safety knives are designed for continuous professional use — usually with an automatic or manual blade guard that prevents cuts when the knife is not in use. The standard choice in logistics, retail and production.
Ergonomics: ergonomic design
Ergonomic design — the handle shape is designed around the hand position when cutting and reduces fatigue with repeated use.
Ergonomics: left- and right-handed
Left- and right-handed — can be used with either hand, with or without conversion depending on the model, equally suitable for left- and right-handed users.
Weight: < 50 g
< 50 g — feather-light, practically unnoticeable when carried continuously, e.g. on the belt or in the hand. This model weighs 17 g.
Material: stainless steel
Stainless steel is rustproof and insensitive to moisture — the right choice for wet areas, food production or outdoor use. Slightly shorter edge life than carbon steel.
Coating: uncoated
Uncoated — constant basic sharpness without coating wear, cost-efficient and proven. The most economical choice for standard applications.
Sharpness: high initial sharpness
High initial sharpness — especially sharp from the first cut, ideal when maximum cutting performance is needed immediately.
Sharpness: long edge life
Long edge life — much longer service life until the next blade change than standard blades. Reduces change intervals and blade consumption in intensive use.
Blade safety: without snap-off segments
Without snap-off segments — continuous blade without predetermined breaking points, no risk of a segment breaking off uncontrolled.
Blade safety: few mounting holes
Few mounting holes — fewer blade mounting holes mean fewer predetermined breaking points under lateral force, and a lower risk of uncontrolled breakage.

Variants

The OLFA SK-15 is not only available in yellow. The white variant H036W is technically identical but is particularly suitable as a promotional item: it can be printed with your company logo on request and thus becomes a practical giveaway with real practical value in everyday work.

Alternatives

The OLFA SK-15 is the best-value winner among the BoxCutters. If you are looking for maximum cutting performance, you will find the overall test winner in the Tortoris US53; if you would rather change the blade than replace the whole knife, choose the CB100. Here you will find suitable safety knives with a concealed blade in a direct comparison.

Accessories

The OLFA SK-15 can be secured with a lanyard via the large eyelet – so the knife stays within reach and does not get lost in the warehouse. A collection box ensures the safe disposal of dull knives and blades, a cutting ruler allows precise cuts and a belt pouch gives quick access during daily use.

Frequently asked questions

The most frequent questions about the OLFA SK-15: from the disposable principle without blade change to the blade material and suitability for food use, and how it differs from the Tortoris US53.

Why can the blade not be changed on the OLFA SK-15?
The OLFA SK-15 is a disposable knife: the blade is firmly and securely built into the housing and cannot be removed. In return, both edges can be used – when one side is dull, turn the knife over and cut with the second edge. After that the complete knife is replaced.
What material is the blade of the SK-15 made of?
The blade of the OLFA SK-15 is made of stainless steel. This makes it particularly suitable for damp or cold working environments such as cold stores and fresh-produce warehouses, where carbon steel blades would rust. Despite being stainless steel, it achieves a long edge life of around 1,030 cuts across both sides.
Which materials is the OLFA SK-15 suitable for?
The SK-15 is the right choice for films, stretch and shrink film, adhesive tape, strapping and cords, and for opening corrugated cartons. Because of the deliberately narrow 3.2 mm cutting channel, it is not suitable for thick or bulky materials such as polystyrene, rubber or ropes.
Is the OLFA SK-15 suitable for food use?
Yes. The OLFA SK-15 is NSF listed and therefore suitable for use in food environments. Combined with the stainless steel blade, it is a safe choice for food retail, fresh-produce logistics and hygiene-sensitive areas.
What distinguishes the OLFA SK-15 from the Tortoris US53?
Both are level 3 safety knives with a concealed blade. The OLFA SK-15 is the established best-value winner (2nd place) with a stainless steel blade. The Tortoris US53 came first overall as the test winner with the lowest cutting force – the first choice for heavy users for whom every bit of cutting performance counts.
